We met Greg
Frederickson in August 2002.
Greg is the author
of a wonderful book “Dissections: Plane &
Fancy”. We got the idea of dissecting pentominoes from this book.
He showed us his second book,
“Hinged Dissections: Swinging
& Twisting”
which is about ‘hinged dissections’
Greg gave us a
beautiful present, which we want to show to you all.
The pentominoes-swing consists of 20 congruent right isosceles triangles, they are
glued together with adhesive tape.
Triangle 1 is glued to triangle 20, so forming a sling of triangles. You can try making it from paper, but ours is made of beautiful cherry wood.

With a bit of practice you can
use the swing to make any pentomino!
